First ride on Deke...
I've officially named the DeKerf, Deke. Don't know why, just did. Today I began on a thought of putting some passes on my new trail. That didn't go so well. With the rain yesterday and not drying up, coupled with the trail not being done, made the few passes (both ways) go rather ugly. It was like I hadn't ridden at all, ever. I couldn't make the bike handle at all. The tires clogged up with mud and that twenty or so minutes told me that I have some issues to deal with...
Issue #1: The new trail is going to need a much deeper bench cut than what I had previously expected. I also have to find a way to deal with the large amounts of moss that grows on that NW slope. I am going to hafta put lots more time into this trail...I hope it'll be worth it in the end.
Issue#2: I need to buy the correct cleats for the pedals that came on my bike. I could stay clipped in OK, but the amount of float was so huge that the ride on anything non-flat was so sketchy I couldn't really trust myself.
Issue#3: My ass is NOT happy with the Bontrager/San Marco saddle that currently adorns Deke!! I must revert back to the WTB saddles. They fit me best and are just damn good saddles. This should help out a lot with the fit issues I seemed to have with the new bike.
It was odd having all those gears to choose from today. I also need to print off a copy of the Fox Forx manual. I need to be able to dial that thing in, although, it performed quite well. I am happy at this point with the bike. It handles quite well and has that "steer from the hips" attitude to it. Much like both of my Bontragers did. This quality makes for a real nice ride that is quite predictable.
All for now.
Latah~
